MEDIA DAY MADNESS

Shreveport, LA – Friday marks the first day of Bassmaster Classic competition on Louisiana’s Red River.  After a steady downpour dirtied the Red River earlier in the week and forced many of the 49 Classic contenders into search mode during practice, the conditions have stabilized and mostly sunny skies with temperatures in the low 60s are forecast for the duration of the three-day event.

As was the case when the Classic last visited Shreveport in 2009, close-quarter combat is expected in many of the familiar Red River haunts that have kicked out quality limits of largemouth in past tournaments.

Thursday’s Media Day might as well have been dubbed “Groundhog Day,” as Classic competitors fielded a barrage of duplicate questions with neatly rehearsed answers about preparing for the Classic, water conditions, tournament practice, and Classic expectations.

With pre-Classic coverage dominating nearly every bass fishing related outlet on the internet, The BASS ZONE took an off-the-wall approach to covering Media Day at the Classic, instead of asking standard pre-tournament questions with predictable responses.  The truth is that many of the Classic contenders have made an art form out of fielding pre-tournament questions without actually giving up any of the juice.

With this in mind, here are the questions that The BASS ZONE threw at some of the contenders on the eve of the Red River Classic:

KEVIN VANDAM
Q. Who is the most influential person in bass fishing today?
A.  Right now, it’s the new owners of B.A.S.S..  Don, Jerry, and Jim really are going to change the whole future of the sport of bass fishing.  What B.A.S.S. does sets the precedence for everyone else.

Q. When was the last time you were truly scared on the water?
A.  I’ve had several times in recent years.  The last time that really bothered me was last year at Wheeler.  We had a super strong storm came through and I went up on the bank as tight as I could.  I had lighting hit so close one time on the Potomac River, that I felt it through the little metal button on my hat.  Lightning really scares me.

Q. Vince McMahon from the WWE has set up a tag team match between “Triple H “and “The Rock” against you another Classic contender of your choice.  Who are you going to team up with, and why?
A. There are several guys who you could have on your team.  Mark Tucker is a body builder, but he’s a little long in the tooth.  I’m going to go with Chris Lane.  Chris is old school, Florida tough.  You need somebody bad like that if you’re going up against those guys. .

Q. If you were dropped off at the public library without a cell phone or internet access for three hours, what section would you spend most of your time in?
A. I love reading non-fiction, especially things like geography and science.

Q. A lot of anglers use the phrase “swinging for the fence” when talking about fishing the Bassmaster Classic.  What exactly are they swinging, and what fence are they swinging for?
A. That’s a big cliché that guys use when they’re unsure about their pattern.  If they have a bad day, it can be used as a scapegoat.  I know what it means to gamble, but you’ve got to be smart about it.  I’ve made a gamble three years in a row during the Classic and it has paid off for me the last two years.  In 2009, I made the same gamble here on the Red River and it didn’t pay off

Q. What is the fastest that you’ve ever driven while towing a boat?
A. Too fast.  The one thing that I’ll tell you about a Tundra, is that it has a governor in it that slows it down.

Gerald SwindleGERALD SWINDLE
Q. Who is the most influential person in bass fishing?
A. For me, it is my Dad and my Granddad.

Q. If a blimp was hovering over the Day One Classic launch with a scrolling message, what would you want it to say?
A.”Eat more chicken!”

Q. When is the last time you were truly scared on the water?
A. It was a lightning storm at Lake Dardanelle.  I was in a lily pad field and couldn’t get the boat up on plane.  There was lightning striking everywhere and I actually saw the lightning strike up in the woods twice and fire was shooting out across the water.  I got up under the console of my boat and was thinking I was actually going to die right there.

Q. Vince McMahon from the WWE has set up a tag team match between “Triple H “and “The Rock” against you and another Classic contender of your choice.  Who are you going to team up with, and why?
A. That’s easy. It would be Jared Lintner.

Q. What are three things in your life in 2012 that are more important than winning the Bassmaster Classic?
A. My wife, my family, and my faith.

Q. If you were dropped off at the public library without a cell phone or internet access for three hours, what section would you spend most of your time in?
A. The Sports Illustrated section.

Q. A lot of anglers use the phrase “swinging for the fence” when talking about fishing the Bassmaster Classic.  What exactly are they swinging, and what fence are they swinging for?
A. That’s a bunch of bull crap. It’s an excuse for ‘I didn’t catch jack.’  I don’t know what fence they are swinging for, because I’ve never seen it.

Q. If you had a CB Radio installed in your tow vehicle, what would your CB radio handle be?
A. “Rubber Duck”

Q. What was the last thing that you killed, and did you eat it?
A. I killed a 155” eight-point buck in Alabama, and yes, I did eat it.

Q. What is the fastest that you’ve ever driven while towing a boat?
A. Way over 100 MPH. It was in a race across the desert.  I won.

Q. What is the closest country to the United States that’s separated by water?
A. This is bull crap right here.  I refuse to answer that.  I plead the 5th.

Mike IaconelliMIKE IACONELLI
Q. Who is the most influential person in bass fishing today?
A.  Right now from a competitive standpoint, it’s Kevin VanDam.  He has set a bar that we’re all trying to reach.  From a TV standpoint, the guys like Hank Parker and Bill Dance have done more for the sport than you can ever imagine.

Q. If a blimp was hovering over the Day 1 Classic launch with a scrolling message, what would you want it to say?
A.  It would say “Follow Kevin VanDam,” and it would also give the GPS coordinates to where he was going to fish.  That way, all the spectators would follow him.

Q. Vince McMahon from the WWE has set up a tag team match between “Triple H “and “The Rock” against you another Classic contender of your choice.  Who are you going to team up with, and why?
A. This is going to shock you. I’m picking Matt Reed.  I’ve heard that in his former life before he was a pro angler, Matt Reed was a bad dude who used to get into a lot of bar fights.

Q. What are three things in your life in 2012 that are more important than winning the Bassmaster Classic?
A. Keeping my 13-year-old from having a boyfriend, watching my son, Vegas, grow up, and launching my new TV show, Going IKE.

Q. What is the last movie that you saw in a theatre?
A.  I took my girls to a drive-in and I let them watch one of the Twilight movies.  I wasn’t into it.  Honestly, I wasn’t.  I did it for the girls.

Q. What was the last thing that you killed, and did you eat it?
A. I ran over a rabbit in my driveway.  I didn’t feel terrible about it because it’s the whole circle of life thing. The turkey buzzards and stuff probably got a good meal.

Q. What is the fastest that you’ve ever driven while towing a boat?
A. I know exactly.  I was at an invitational tournament on Kerr Reservoir back in 1997 and my wife at the time called and told me that she had gone into labor.  I drove about 90-miles-per-hour all the way back to New Jersey.

Greg HackneyGREG HACKNEY
Q. Who is the most influential person in bass fishing today?
A.  I’d have to say Kevin VanDam.

Q. If a blimp was hovering over the Day 1 Classic launch with a scrolling message, what would you want it to say?
A. “Hackney, you’re the man.”

Q. Vince McMahon from the WWE has set up a tag team match between “Triple H “and “The Rock” against you another Classic contender of your choice.  Who are you going to team up with, and why?
A. That’s a hard question.  I’m going to have to pick Kevin VanDam.  He never loses.

Q. If you were dropped off at the public library without a cell phone or internet access for three hours, what section would you spend most of your time in?
A.  Guns and ammo

Q. What is the last movie that you saw in a theatre?
A.  The Grey

Q. If you had a CB Radio installed in your tow vehicle, what would your CB radio handle be?
A.  “Longline”

Q. What is the fastest that you’ve ever driven while towing a boat?
A. 110-miles-per-hour.

JOHN CREWS
Q. Who is the most influential person in bass fishing?
A.”I don’t think there is one person in particular today.  Back in the day, it was definitely Ray Scott.  Jerry McKinnis is trying to take over that roll and is doing some things to move in that direction.  Johnny Morris and a few others are also influential.  You could also argue that Irwin Jacobs is very influential in the sport over the years also.”

Q. If a blimp was hovering over the Day 1 Classic launch with a scrolling message, what would you want it to say?
A. “Missile Baits.”

Q. When is the last time you were truly scared on the water?
A. When I was practicing for the Pittsburgh Classic and got caught in a bad lightning storm.  Ike and I were waiting on the lock together, and both had to get under our consoles because the storm was so bad.

Q. Vince McMahon from the WWE has set up a tag team match between “Triple H “and “The Rock” against you and another Classic contender of your choice.  Who are you going to team up with, and why?
A. I’ll take Mark Tucker.  I don’t know if you knew this, but he is actually half-man, half-gristle.

Q. What are three things in your life in 2012 that are more important than winning the Bassmaster Classic?
A. Number one would be my new baby girl, which is first and foremost.  Being there for the rest of my family would also be more important than winning the Classic.  I wouldn’t have missed the birth of my daughter for anything.

Q. If you were dropped off at the public library without a cell phone or internet access for three hours, what section would you spend most of your time in?
A. I would probably start with the newspapers and get caught up on current events, and then shift over to the business section.  There is information in those business books that is never dated.

Q. What is the last movie that you saw in a theatre?
A. I took my 4 yr old daughter to see the Muppets.

Q. If you had a CB Radio installed in your tow vehicle, what would your CB radio handle be?
A. When I had a CB in my truck, my handle was “Sure Shot.”

RANDY HOWELL
Q. If a blimp was hovering over the Day 1 Classic launch with a scrolling message, what would you want it to say?
A. “We’re praying for you Randy Howell.  Win this Classic.”

Q. When is the last time you were truly scared on the water?
A.  In a really bad lightning storm on the Potomac River.  Lightning hit the back corner of my boat, knocked me and my partner out for a split second, fried all the electronics on my boat and stopped my watch.  It messed up a lot of stuff and probably almost killed us.

Q. Vince McMahon from the WWE has set up a tag team match between “Triple H “and “The Rock” against you another Classic contender of your choice.  Who are you going to team up with, and why?
A. I’d have to choose scrappy little Brent Chapman.  He’s pretty hard-core and intense.  He also just won that brutal Bassmaster Open on Lake Lewisville.  He’s on top of his game right now.

Q. What are three things in your life in 2012 that are more important than winning the Bassmaster Classic?
A.  Faith is a big part of what I do.  I’d really like to see King’s Home have a banner year and raise a lot of money and be able to help a lot of kids and people in need.  I’d also like to have the opportunity to use fishing as a platform to speak to people about my faith. I’d also like to win Angler Of the Year.

Q. If you were dropped off at the public library without a cell phone or internet access for three hours, what section would you spend most of your time in?
A. The motivational and leadership section.

Q. If you had a CB Radio installed in your tow vehicle, what would your CB radio handle be?
A. “Flat Top”

Ish MonroeISH MONROE
Q. If a blimp was hovering over the Day 1 Classic launch with a scrolling message, what would you want it to say?
A. “Will you marry me, Kim Kardashian?”

Q. Vince McMahon from the WWE has set up a tag team match between “Triple H “and “The Rock” against you another Classic contender of your choice.  Who are you going to team up with, and why?
A. Big Show. Terry Scroggins is the man.

Q. If you were dropped off at the public library without a cell phone or internet access for three hours, what section would you spend most of your time in?
A. Sleeping in a corner.

Q. A lot of anglers use the phrase “swinging for the fence” when talking about fishing the Bassmaster Classic.  What exactly are they swinging, and what fence are they swinging for?
A. I don’t believe there’s such a thing as “swinging for the fences.”  You’re either fishing to win or you’re not.  Those guys who say that aren’t fishing to win.  They’re going out there on a gamble.

Q. What is the last movie that you saw in a theatre?
A.  I really don’t want to say.

DAVID WALKER
Q. Who is the most influential person in bass fishing today?
A.  Jerry McKinnis I guess.

Q. If a blimp was hovering over the Day 1 Classic launch with a scrolling message, what would you want it to say?
A. “Go, Daddy!”

Q. When is the last time you were truly scared on the water?
A.  At the Arkansas River last year.  Everyone basically did a shotgun start as soon as the lock gates opened.  It was pretty scary.

Q. What are three things in your life in 2012 that are more important than winning the Bassmaster Classic?
A. That would be my two girls and my wife.

Q. A lot of anglers use the phrase “swinging for the fence” when talking about fishing the Bassmaster Classic.  What exactly are they swinging, and what fence are they swinging for?
A. I think that’s a term that a lot of guys use because they’ve heard it a lot.  I’m not sure many guys have a good sense of what the phrase even means when they say it.

Q. If you had a CB Radio installed in your tow vehicle, what would your CB radio handle be?
A.  I don’t know about this one.  I actually have a CB radio, but I don’t have a handle.  If I had to have one, I’d just go with “The Magic Man.”

Q. What is the fastest that you’ve ever driven while towing a boat?
A. What speed does the governor kick in?  I’ve hit that a few times.

STEPHEN BROWNING
Q. Vince McMahon from the WWE has set up a tag team match between “Triple H “and “The Rock” against you another Classic contender of your choice.  Who are you going to team up with, and why?
A. Man, I want to pick Ish because he’s a pretty good sized dude, but I’m going to have to go with Aaron Martens.  I think we’d get them in the long run.

Q. If you were dropped off at the public library without a cell phone or internet access for three hours, what section would you spend most of your time in?
A. I would definitely go over to the old western books, sit down, and chill out.  That would actually be a good thing.  I could live without my phone and the internet for three hours.

Q. What is the last movie that you saw in a theatre?
A.  That’s a tough one.  It’s been so long that I don’t even know.  We don’t go to the movies because most of the actors and actresses don’t like what we do and don’t support the outdoors and nature.  They don’t support me, so I won’t support them.

Q. If you had a CB Radio installed in your tow vehicle, what would your CB radio handle be?
A. “A5.”  I used to run with one, and that’s what my handle was.

Q. What is the fastest that you’ve ever driven while towing a boat?
A. I got pulled over going 107-miles-per-hour from San Antonio out to California in an 85-mile-per-hour zone.  I won’t say that I talked my way out of it, but the gentleman was very nice.

MARTY ROBINSON
Q. Who is the most influential person in bass fishing today?
A.  I would say Sherry VanDam. Kevin’s wife.

Q. If a blimp was hovering over the Day 1 Classic launch with a scrolling message, what would you want it to say?
A. “Kevin VanDam has withdrawn from the tournament and will not be fishing.”

Q. When is the last time you were truly scared on the water?
A.  Probably when KVD came into one of my better areas during practice a few days ago.

Q. Vince McMahon from the WWE has set up a tag team match between “Triple H “and “The Rock” against you another Classic contender of your choice.  Who are you going to team up with, and why?
A. I’m going outside the Classic field and say Jason Williamson.  He’s got a pretty good reach and I think that we might be able to get a few good licks in and not get hit back.

Q. What is the last movie that you saw in a theatre?
A.  Footloose.  It’s a dancing movie and my wife and I are big dancers.

Q. If you had a CB Radio installed in your tow vehicle, what would your CB radio handle be?
A. “Meat”

Q. What was the last thing that you killed, and did you eat it?
A. The last thing that I killed was a Crown and Coke.

Dustin WilksDUSTIN WILKS
Q. If a blimp was hovering over the Day 1 Classic launch with a scrolling message, what would you want it to say?
A. I don’t want to say the very first thing that came to mind, but it’d be something along the lines of “Go home Kevin VanDam.”

Q. When is the last time you were truly scared on the water?
A.  When we were at West Point Lake, it was really foggy.  I was running up the lake and all of the sudden I just got a really bad feeling and pulled over the side.  As soon as I did that, a boat ran full speed right where I had been sitting.  The Man was looking after me on that one.

Q. What are three things in your life in 2012 that are more important than winning the Bassmaster Classic?
A.  Lots of things are more important than winning the Classic.  Just getting together fishing with my friends at home is more important to me.  If you win the Classic and don’t have any friends, I wouldn’t be very fun.

Q. If you were dropped off at the public library without a cell phone or internet access for three hours, what section would you spend most of your time in?
A. Wherever there was a phone to call a taxi.

Q. A lot of anglers use the phrase “swinging for the fence” when talking about fishing the Bassmaster Classic.  What exactly are they swinging, and what fence are they swinging for?
A. I think that phrase is just a way for guys to say that they don’t know what they’re doing.  It’s just something that everyone says when they’re going to go out and wing it.

Q. What is the last movie that you saw in a theatre?
A.  I don’t remember the name of it because it was so bad.  It was a spy movie with Matt Damon.  It was horrible and I haven’t been back sense.

Q. What is the fastest that you’ve ever driven while towing a boat?
A. I used to drive really fast back in 2000 when gas on the Florida/Georgia line was less than a dollar a gallon.  We’d drive 90-miles-per-hour from Florida all the way back home.

BRANDON PALANIUK
Q. Who is the most influential person in bass fishing?
A. For me, it would be a guy from home named Jeremy Tripp.  He was the first guy to take me out bass fishing and show me how to specifically target bass.  Then I found out that you could make money doing it and that was it, I knew I wanted to do it for a living.”

Q. If a blimp was hovering over the Day 1 Classic launch with a scrolling message, what would you want it to say?
A. “Do work!”

Q. When is the last time you were truly scared on the water?
A.  It was the 2010 Federation Nation National Championship on the Red River.  My friend and I were practicing, and we caught a 10-foot alligator on a frog.  We wanted to take pictures of it so we were trying to get it close enough to the boat by using a paddle to get a rope around it.  The alligator bit our paddle in half when we were trying to get the rope around it.

Q. Vince McMahon from the WWE has set up a tag team match between “Triple H “and “The Rock” against you and another Classic contender of your choice.  Who are you going to team up with, and why?
A. I think I am going to go with Marty Robinson.  I’ve seen his dance moves and he is pretty mean on the dance floor.  Since professional wrestling is all about the show, I think we could use his dancing skills to put on quite the show.

Q. What are three things in your life in 2012 that are more important than winning the Bassmaster Classic?
A. My family, friends, and having fun.

Q. A lot of anglers use the phrase “swinging for the fence” when talking about fishing the Bassmaster Classic.  What exactly are they swinging, and what fence are they swinging for?
A. I think that means you’re in prison and you just stole a 25-pound bag of fish and you are making a run for the fence and you have to throw it hard enough to make it over the fence.

Q. If you had a CB Radio installed in your tow vehicle, what would your CB radio handle be?
A. “We’ll go with an Idaho based name. “Potato208.”

BILL LOWEN
Q. Who is the most influential person in bass fishing today?
A.  Right now it’s Kevin VanDam. He’s a great ambassador for the sport.

Q. Vince McMahon from the WWE has set up a tag team match between “Triple H “and “The Rock” against you another Classic contender of your choice.  Who are you going to team up with, and why?
A. How do you guys come up with these questions?  I’d go with Swindle.  He could tell some jokes while I ran like hell.

Q. What are three things in your life in 2012 that are more important than winning the Bassmaster Classic?
A. My two kids and my family.

Q. If you were dropped off at the public library without a cell phone or internet access for three hours, what section would you spend most of your time in?
A. Probably in the wildlife section.

Q. What is the fastest that you’ve ever driven while towing a boat?
A. I don’t like to drive fast so I stay around 75-miles-per-hour.  Now, if you get my wife behind the wheel, that’s a different story.  She drives like a maniac.

MATT REED
Q. If a blimp was hovering over the Day 1 Classic launch with a scrolling message, what would you want it to say?
A. “Jerk when you’re cork goes under.”

Q. If you were dropped off at the public library without a cell phone or internet access for three hours, what section would you spend most of your time in?
A. I’d be in the outdoors section. I don’t like to read about anything else.

Q. A lot of anglers use the phrase “swinging for the fence” when talking about fishing the Bassmaster Classic.  What exactly are they swinging, and what fence are they swinging for?
A. When I see a T post, I keep my boat off of it.  I don’t want to swing towards it because those fences in the water cause a lot of damage to your boat.  That’s just a terminology that basically means that if you screw up, it’s OK.

Q. What is the last movie that you saw in a theatre?
A.  Golly.  You’d have to ask my wife.  I think it was Captain America.  It wasn’t very memorable.

Q. If you had a CB Radio installed in your tow vehicle, what would your CB radio handle be?
A. I’ve never had one of those, but I’d go with, “Water Man.”

Q. What was the last thing that you killed, and did you eat it?
A. Not sure what it was, but I’m sure that I ate it.

Q. What is the fastest that you’ve ever driven while towing a boat?
A. With my boat and camper?  Probably in the mid 90s.  I chased Zell Rowland to California in 2010, and he was pushing 95 most of the time.  It was insane.

Bobby LaneBOBBY LANE
Q. Who is the most influential person in bass fishing?
A.  Whoever got the Carhartt sponsorship.

Q. If a blimp was hovering over the Day 1 Classic launch with a scrolling message, what would you want it to say?
A. “ Shreveport, LA - where one of the Lane brothers will take home the trophy.”

Q. When is the last time you were truly scared on the water?
A. Muskogee.  I ran over a sandbar and put my boat about 5 ft up into some cypress trees.  I actually broke two of the Cypress when I hit them.  That was really scary stuff.

Q. Vince McMahon from the WWE has set up a tag team match between “Triple H “and “The Rock” against you and another Classic contender of your choice.  Who are you going to team up with, and why?
A. I’d have to choose Gerald Swindle.  Between him and me, we could probably get those guys laughing so hard that maybe I could sneak up behind one of them and take him out and then it would be two on one and we could win the match.

Q. If you were dropped off at the public library without a cell phone or internet access for three hours, what section would you spend most of your time in?
A. The problem is you have to know how to read to enjoy the library.  I would probably read a lot about alligators.  I enjoy learning about those pre-historic creatures, so I would find some books on gators.

Q. What is the last movie that you saw in a theatre?
A. The latest Twilight movie with my wife.

Q. If you had a CB Radio installed in your tow vehicle, what would your CB radio handle be?
A. My handle was “Topwater” when I had my CB, so I would stick with that.

Q. What was the last thing that you killed, and did you eat it?
A. I smashed a bird on the way up here with my Toyota, and no, I didn’t eat it.

FRED ROUMBANIS
Q. Who is the most influential person in bass fishing?
A.  Kevin Van Dam

Q. If a blimp was hovering over the Day 1 Classic launch with a scrolling message, what would you want it to say?
A. “Happy anniversary Julie and I Love You.”  Tomorrow is our 5 year anniversary, and since she has come into my life, I have made 3 classics in 5 years.  Actually, I would like to say a poem for my wife Julie.  “Roses are Red, Violets are Blue, because of the Bassmaster Classic, I haven’t had time to buy either, but I love you.”  Happy Anniversary!

Q. When is the last time you were truly scared on the water?
A. Lake Erie last year.  I had an electrical failure in 8 foot waves and the boat was taking on water really fast, luckily I was able to get towed in.  The only other time something like that happened was when I was fishing a pro-am on my nineteenth birthday.  I sunk a boat at the California Delta and found myself swimming against the tide for 45 minutes.

Q. What are three things in your life in 2012 that are more important than winning the Bassmaster Classic?
A. My son’s first birthday, celebrating my anniversary, and my parent’s health.

Q. If you were dropped off at the public library without a cell phone or internet access for three hours, what section would you spend most of your time in?
A. I would try to find any Bassmaster archive that would help me with Douglas Lake since I have never been there.  But honestly I would probably end up playing angry birds on my phone!

Q. If you had a CB Radio installed in your tow vehicle, what would your CB radio handle be?
A. It definitely wouldn’t be “Candy Cane,” so I’d have to say “Boom Boom.”

Ott DefoeOTT DEFOE
Q. Who is the most influential person in bass fishing?
A. That’s easy.  Kevin Van Dam,

Q. If a blimp was hovering over the Day 1 Classic launch with a scrolling message, what would you want it to say?
A. “GOD Bless America”

Q. What are three things in your life in 2012 that are more important than winning the Bassmaster Classic?
A. God, my wife and three children, and the rest of my family.

Q. If you were dropped off at the public library without a cell phone or internet access for three hours, what section would you spend most of your time in?
A. I wouldn’t. I’d go to sleep.  I’m up with babies all night so I could use the sleep.

Q. A lot of anglers use the phrase “swinging for the fence” when talking about fishing the Bassmaster Classic.  What exactly are they swinging, and what fence are they swinging for?
A. They’re swinging a 7 ½ foot flipping stick and trying to take out the knees of the other competitors.

Q. What is the last movie that you saw in a theatre?
A. I took my daughter Abbie and we saw Happy Feet 2.

Q. What is the fastest that you’ve ever driven while towing a boat?
A. The speedometer in my truck cuts off at 100 MPH, so I’m really not sure.

DAVY HITE
Q. If a blimp was hovering over the Day 1 Classic launch with a scrolling message, what would you want it to say?
A. “Go Davey Hite!”

Q. Vince McMahon from the WWE has set up a tag team match between “Triple H “and “The Rock” against you and another Classic contender of your choice.  Who are you going to team up with, and why?
A. Gerald Swindle, he fits the WWE perfectly.  He could do all the smack talking and I could take care of the dirty work.

Q. What are three things in your life in 2012 that are more important than winning the Bassmaster Classic?
A. My wife and my two sons

Q. If you were dropped off at the public library without a cell phone or internet access for three hours, what section would you spend most of your time in?
A. I would finish reading “Killing Lincoln,” which I am reading right now.

Q. What is the last movie that you saw in a theatre?
A. War Horse

Q. What is the fastest that you’ve ever driven while towing a boat?
A. I don’t think I should answer that because it might be held against me in a court of law.

STEVE KENNEDY
Q. If a blimp was hovering over the Day 1 Classic launch with a scrolling message, what would you want it to say?
A. “War Eagle!”

Q. When is the last time you were truly scared on the water?
A. Lake Erie. My bilge pumps stopped working after getting clogged up with fishing line and trash that had gotten down through my drains.  I had run over 60 miles and the lake got really rough and I had to get back.  I’m running back with a Coke in my hand and a pack of crackers in the other and I am spearing a wave every once in a while.  We speared one pretty bad, and I remember looking over at my partner and he looked like he was snorkeling trying to get his breath.  We were underwater and the boat was not coming up, finally we floated up and it took forever to get the water out of the boat with my back up pump.
