Ashland City,
TN. – Give the marketing divisions at FLW Outdoors, Ranger and Genmar a tip of the cap for their contingency program, as it has generated business; but they might have some competition, at least in one region.
Triton Boats has decided to honor the contingency program that gives a prize boat to the winner of an FLW National Guard Western Division, or Stren Series Western Division event for owners of a Triton Boat.
The BASS ZONE caught up with Bernie House, a Triton Boats Executive who outlined the enhanced Triton Gold program for Western Anglers.
“This is a part of our decision to do more to support the grass roots anglers across the country,” House told The BASS ZONE. “The Western Angler doesn’t have as many options to fish with BASS not having Opens and Weekend Series events, and this is a way for anglers to drive the boat they want and still reap the benefits that FLW Western Division competitions offer them.”
House said that part of the reason they are able to up the ante for the West is that Triton scaled back their sponsorship of high level BASS events. “We decided to take some of the budget that we had allocated to The Bassmaster Elite Series the past few years, and re-distribute it,” he said. “Triton is still a sponsor and supporter of BASS, but not to the scale we have been.”
The enhanced Triton Gold program will give a Triton owner registered in the Triton Gold program a Triton Tr-200 boat and trailer equipped with a Lowrance X-135 in the dash, a MotorGuide Tour Edition 70 lb thrust trolling motor, and all of the standard features of a Triton boat; except for the engine.
House said that they currently are discussing the possibility of Mercury providing an engine for all eight regular season Western FLW National Guard and Stren Series events, but that Mercury had already committed engines for the FLW Series East / West Fishoff, and the Stren Series Championship (if the winner is from the Western Divisions).
House did say that the regular Triton Gold bonus of $1000 for the highest finishing registered Triton Gold Triton Boat owner will still apply. He also said that Triton understands the special clothing requirements involved for anglers competing in FLW tournaments. “We want the anglers to wear their regulation Triton Gold clothing for the first three days of an event,” House said. “When they have to wear other clothing on the final day, we ask that they choose clothing with no other boat or motor company logo; Snickers, Pringles, Stren or National Guard etc. would be fine.”
“We looked at the country and felt that the Triton Owners of the West don’t really have a place to call home, and we want them to feel free to own a Triton and have the same earning potential as other competitors,” House said in conclusion.
