Prattville, Ala. – The BASS ZONE caught up with someone at the Classic Expo that reminded us of Russ Lane, but we weren’t sure if we knew the man. We walked into the Yamaha booth where the gentleman was standing, and sure enough, it was Big Daddy; well to be more accurate, it was about 70 percent of him.

Following the conclusion of the Elite Series schedule and a couple of cherry picked entries into some FLW Series and Stren Series; Big Daddy hit the gym, and the result was a loss of 32 pounds since November. Lane who spent four years in college and some time pitching in the minor leagues felt he needed to make a change. |

TRIMMER RUSS LANE IN 2008 |
“I am back at my playing weight, and I feel great,” Lane told The BASS ZONE. “I spent two and a half hours every day in the gym. One hour was cardio, and the other time was weight training, but it was focused on cardio by moving quickly between sets.”
Lane said he can already tell a difference. “I can move around in the boat easier, and I have more energy, so I can go after my goal of getting back into the Classic next year.”
The other news out of Camp Lane is that he has joined the Evan Williams Bourbon team with his friend Jason Quinn. Here is what he said in press release to the media about his new sponsor “I am thrilled to welcome Evan Williams Bourbon to my roster of sponsors. They have shown tremendous support for bass fishing, through their sponsorship of Jason and their involvement in presenting tournaments.”
He concluded, “I am pleased and honored to be working with such a far-sighted and active sponsor. Evan Williams has been very visible lately throughout the Elite Series tournaments and in the Bass Federation Nation. Hopefully, between Jason and myself, we’ll have a strong Evan Williams presence on the winner’s podium as well.”
In case anyone is concerned with the common thread of weight rooms, pitching a baseball and a revamped physique, Lane addressed that topic by saying, “the only performance enhancing substance around me is the crawfish flavored Carolina Lunker Sauce I put on my Vicious jigs and plastics; and maybe a little Evan Williams nightcap,” he concluded with a chuckle.
