Bixby,
OK - 2007 was a great year for Fred Roumbanis, he won the first major of 2007, and he and his wife Julie welcomed their son Jackson into the world as well. He also grabbed the Toyota Moving Forward Award and qualifying for his first trip to the Bassmaster Classic have not left him sitting on his couch hoping that he has a good season in 2008. Instead, Roumbanis is busily preparing himself for the season ahead.

The
29-year-old Roumbanis told The BASS ZONE that he has been breaking in his new Triton and Mercury, making his jerseys and preparing his boat wrap set for the Classic. “I’ve settled on a Triton 20X High Performance and Mercury 250XS,” Roumbanis said. “I’ve been spending some time breaking it in, but it’s been so cold, I end up not driving, but fishing instead.”
Roumbanis said that he has spent much of his first week of 2008 working with graphic designers on his jerseys and his boat wrap. “I will be featuring the IMA Lures brand this year,” Roumbanis reported. “My wrap is close to being done, but it will show off my bait, The Roumba as well as Michael Murphy’s Flit Jerkbait and Bill Smith’s Shaker, but I am still working on the jerseys.”
He told The BASS ZONE that he is anxious to get the season started, but that he isn’t entirely happy it is starting in Florida. “I’m not sure I’m thrilled with starting in Florida,” he said. “But, at least it is in the spring instead of the summer.”
Roumbanis also said that he has now completely settled into like in Bixby with Julie and Jackson, but he still considers himself a dual citizen. “I love it here (in Oklahoma)” he said giggling. “The Sooner state is my home, but I still consider myself a ‘Cali-Okie.’”
As far as other news on the horizon, Roumbanis said that he is really close to making two major announcements, but that they are not quite yet ready to tell the world about them. “We should be ready to announce everything before the Classic,” Roumbanis said. “But, tell my Elite Series competitors not to worry, we’re not announcing another run at the baby pattern; Julie is not pregnant.”
