A DAY (and night) with JAMES
Texas Pro Camping Out During 2008

Story by Dan O'Sullivan

Van, Tx. – When James Niggemeyer got a phone call with a request to film an upcoming episode of ESPN2’s ‘A Day on the Lake,’ he jumped at the chance. The BASS ZONE caught up with him as he was driving home from the experience.

“I have to admit that I got pretty excited about the chance to be on that show,” Niggemeyer said. “It is one of the neatest concepts for articles and television programming, and I was honored to be asked to be on it.”

He said that he really enjoyed the experience and that he would do it again anytime. So, how did the fishing go? “I can’t really talk about it,” he said. “Viewers will just have to watch and see.”

The filming of the show is not the only new thing in Niggemeyer’s business, he has a new ‘home on the road’ to make life as a tournament angler easier.

Niggemeyer has spent the past few years driving a Ford F350 pickup and sleeping in a cab over rodeo camper. “It was one of the ways that I controlled costs while on the road,” he said. “The whole setup served its purpose; I was blessed to have it, but after Sandy (Niggemeyer’s wife) and I thought and prayed about it, I realized I was ready for an upgrade.”

Thanks to a new partnership with Princess Craft Campers of Pfluegerville, Tex. Niggemeyer will be living in luxury on tour this year in a Lance Model 1055 cab over on his Ford F350 dually pickup. “Princess Craft is one of the top 10 Lance dealers in the country, and they really helped me find what I needed in a new camper,” he said. “The 1055 has heat, air conditioning a microwave, a stove and refrigerator; everything I need.”

He said that it will allow him to be more comfortable while on the road, which will in turn help him be able to better focus on his craft. “I couldn’t stand up in the old camper, and while it had heat and A/C, it was pretty sparse, this one is a big step up, and I am truly happy to have it.”

The new focus on the water should allow him to take better advantage of a new tool that he will be using this year; Sunline. “Takahiro Omori introduced me to Sunline, and helped me work out a partnership with them,” he said. “Sunline makes great products, and I really have grown to trust them as a competitive advantage on the water.”

He said that he has been using Sunline’s Shooter as his primary line for most applications, but that Sniper would be his line for spinning tackle, and that he is looking forward to trying Defier, a co-polymer line developed by Elite Series pro Morizo Shimizu. “It is great handling and very strong,” he said. “I am also looking forward to trying the Super P.E. braided line. It feels really good to be representing a premium fishing line like Sunline.”

As for the rest of the season preparations, Niggemeyer said that he is almost finished with all of his logistics, and is looking forward to the start of the Elite Series schedule. ‘I’m ready to start fishing,” he said. “I’m looking forward to working for my sponsors at The Classic, but am ready to get back to the water.”
