Norman, Okla. – As The BASS ZONE prepares for their on location coverage of The Bassmaster Legends on Lake Dardanelle in Russellville, Ark. Kevin Short, the Bassmaster Elite Series Pro from mayflower Ark. has agreed to stand alongside Mark Jeffreys and Co-host The BASS ZONE’s on location "Wide Open" coverage of the final major.

Short will fill in for ‘The Legend’ Harold Allen at Dardanelle, as Allen is competing in tournaments at home in Texas. “I can’t replace Harold, but I will try and fill in for him,” Short said. “After all, there can only be one Legend.”

The 45-year-old Short has gained prominence on the Elite Series for his hot pink Peeper’s Baits wrapped Bass Cat and his off the cuff, off the wall column at ESPNOutdoors.com. “I am excited to be doing this at the Legends,” Short said. “Don’t get me wrong, I’d rather be fishing the tournament, but this is a great opportunity to support the sport, and my sponsors in place of competing.”

Short said that he has had some experience in front of cameras before; and while he knows the week at Dardanelle will be a lot of hard work, he is looking forward to it. “I have always wanted to do this kind of work before,” he jokingly continued. “I’m usually in the front of the boat screaming at Jeffreys to take his bad Juju somewhere else; now I get to be on the other side.”

He did say that it has taken him a few days to deal with the frustration of reporting on the event as opposed to competing in it, but he sees value in this role. “My main sponsors are here in Arkansas,” Short said of The Arkansas Farm Bureau, Bass Cat Boats, Ray Chevrolet and Crabtree RV Centers. “We were excited about me competing in this tournament in my home state, and I kind of feel like I let them down a little by not qualifying.”

“I respect what Mark (Jeffreys) and the whole crew at BASS ZONE do,” Short continued. “I am excited about being a part of the BASS ZONE team for a week; it’s a tremendous way for me to take the lemons I picked for myself by missing the Legends, and turn it into a little Peeper’s pink lemonade. Besides, I’m looking forward to bringing my twisted sense of humor to The BASS ZONE.”

BASS ZONE’s on location coverage of the Bassmaster Legends begins August 23 from Russellville, Ark.
