Seven years after it was established, the sport's only organization dedicated to honoring its legends has a new name. The hall’s board of directors has dropped “professional” from the name to further exemplify its dedication to all anglers, industry officials, media and fans who have contributed to the sport.
“The word professional was included in the original name because at the time, it was formed with professional anglers in mind, but over time that has changed,” said Sammy Lee, President of the Board of Directors for the Bass Fishing Hall of Fame. |
“I personally had people tell me they believed only professional anglers were able to be involved, which prevented them from getting involved. The new name more accurately defines our mission to honor those within the fishing industry who have contributed in great ways to the sport,” Lee said.
The name change is effective immediately.
Four new members will be inducted to the Bass Fishing Hall of Fame on Feb. 24 during ceremonies at the Birmingham/Jefferson Civic Center. Dee Thomas of California, Stan Fagerstrom of Arizona, Basil Bacon of Missouri, and the late Bill Norman of Arkansas will be honored for their contributions.
Tickets are available for the banquet by visiting
