The Triton Boats Tournament Trail proudly presented by Nichols Marine continued the 2007 season with the third event of the year on Sunday, May 20th at Grand Lake. Three Hundred and Three (303) teams hit the waters for what was sure to become a typically Grand Lake slug-fest. Competing teams were again greeted by a strong bass bite, which only added to the excitement of a great weekend on the water.
At the conclusion of the day’s events the team of Jared Redyke and Andy Benson brought an impressive 24.61 pounds of Grand Lake bass to the scales and for that sack of fish they took the first place prize home, the Triton TR186 with Mercury 150 motor.
Second place went to Brent Jones and Brad Warwick with a five fish limit weighing 22.08 pounds. Brent and Brad took the $10,000.00 GUARANTEED to 2nd place!
In third place, Rick Woods and Brandon Christian brought 21.90 pounds to the scales. The third place finish netted them $5,000.00!
The fourth place spot went to Travis McKelvey and Joe Vaugn with 19.67 pounds on their five fish and earned them $2,800.00.
Rounding out the top five and taking home a check for $2,250.00 was Allen Head and Gary Carrier at 19.46 pounds.
Curt Warren and John Pilcher brought the big bass of the event to the scales; the big 7.01 pound largemouth brought them the $1,000.00 big bass award.
In addition, the Triton Team Trail proudly presented the Nichols Marine Customer Appreciation Award to the team of Rick Woods and Brandon Christian. Rick and Brandon won the $1,000.00 dollars with their top 3 finish.
After claiming the first place spot the BASS ZONE caught up with today’s winners. Here’s what Jared and Andy had to say about a great day on the water. “Today was really just a lucky day for us because we caught fish doing basically everything. Neither one of us had a very good pre-fish yesterday (Saturday), I was breaking in my new motor so I really only got about half a day’s fishing in. But today, was a different story, we had two 6 pounders. One came on a big jig the other on a spinnerbait. We had a few other keepers on a DD22 crankbait and then just continued to run around to find our fish. We really fished from basically Wolf creek all the way to the dam. We ended up with about 13 or 14 keepers today but the big fish of the day didn’t bite until around 2:30 this afternoon.” The team also wanted to thank “Nitro Boats and Bass Pro Shops!”
The BASS ZONE would like to again congratulate Jared and Andy on their big win and we appreciate them sharing some information with the BASS ZONE! Again, great job on a very impressive sack of fish.
Brent Jones and Brad Warwick the second place team had this to say about their day. “Well we started out fishing a jig early and then went to a Carolina Rig a little later in the day. We had about FORTY (40) keepers today; it was just a phenomenal day! This was one of the best day’s we’ve had on Grand in many years. We came up here Friday and actually found them then, we had about four different areas that was holding fish and they just held up for us today. It was really worthwhile coming up here to practice.” The team also wanted to say thanks to “Okie Bait and Tackle and Fish R Kool”!
The third place team of Rick Woods and Brandon Christian had this to say. “We got on the bank early this morning on a spot where we thought we could catch a limit and we accomplished that in about the first 45 minutes of the morning. Then we left but continued coming back to that same bank and continued to cull up throughout the day. We had about 11 keepers on the day, but the big one Brandon caught didn’t come until about 30 minutes to go in the day.” The team also wanted to thank Nichols Marine. “We won the Nichols Marine Customer Appreciation award and we really appreciate them supporting the fisherman the way they do. We were fishing out of the fourth Champion boat that I’ve boat from Nichols and we really appreciate everything they do.”
Big bass winners Curt Warren and John Pilcher had this to say about their beautiful 7.01 pound largemouth. “We were fishing basically the mid-lake area, concentrating our efforts in the 15 foot range when the big one bit our soft plastic bait around 9:30 this morning. As a matter of fact we caught about three keepers off that one little spot.”
The BASS ZONE would also like to congratulate the rest of the top finishers for a great showing and thank them for the interviews.
