Lake Tenkiller, Cookson, OK--The GOT BASS Team Trail Tournament held its third event of the year on Lake Tenkiller on Sunday, May 6th with the Jimmy Houston Marine, X-Calibur & Humminbird Invitational.
The early week predictions and the threat of rain didn’t keep the anglers away with a good turn out of fisherman taking to the waters. Cloudy weather dominated much of the morning with the sun breaking out later in the day, as it turned out to be a beautiful day of fishing.
At the conclusion of the day of fishing the team of Eric Spence and Doug Gamble took home first place honors with a five fish limit tipping the scales at 16.15 pounds. Second place went to the team of Scott Phillips and Larry Swimmer with a limit of bass weighing 16.02 pounds. Third place was Brad Cook and Eddie Almendares with 14.89 pounds. The team of Jason Kelly and Mitch Ogle brought 14.31 pounds to the scales to claim the fourth place spot. Rounding out the top five was the team of Robert Janes and Jeff Keene with 13.97 pounds.
The BASS ZONE had the opportunity to catch up with the winning teams after the weigh-in and here’s what they had to say. “We started out in the mid lake area and ended up around Pettie bay and up to the mouth of the river. In the later part of the day we moved down around the lower end of the lake. We caught fish all day but most of the good ones came in the morning and it just got tougher for us as the day went along. We had about three limits today but a lot of them were littler Kentucky’s we had about a limit and a half of them and culled an over smallmouth and two good blacks. We caught fish today on everything we had a good top water bite that died down and then we went on to slow rolling a spinnerbait, rigs and jigs.
The second place team of Larry Swimmer and Scott Phillips also had a good day with a second place finish we got a chance to catch them and ask them about there day. “We caught all our fish on a jig, rig, and topwater. We had a limit by seven thirty with four over’s and one spot then it took till 12:15 to cull him. We fished Burnt Cabin till about 12 when we ran up the river and on the third cast my partner caught the last over. And that was all the keepers we had today we caught a lot of fish but they just kept being in the slot”.
The third place team of Brad Cook and Eddie Almendares was also willing to tell us about their day on the water. “Well we went up early and got a small limit shallow and then just started working our way back down. The clear water worked better for us after one o’clock. We started early with a spinnerbait and jigged later in the day. We had about twelve keepers today. Brad and Eddy would also like to take a minute to thank their sponsors Falcon rods and Bill Norman Lures.”
The BASS ZONE would like to thank all the competitors for the informative interviews and thank them for their time!
