WOOD & BROOKS WIN CHARGER TEAM EVENT AT TEXOMA
  24.60 Gets the Win

Saturday, September 8th was the first day of the Charger Fisherman’s Choice, LLC yearend Classic. 94 boats survived the regular season qualifying events and anted up to fish for $10,000.00. After five regular season tournaments in which almost $65,000.00 in cash and prizes were awarded, the season was down to its final two days.

Lake Texoma was the site for the Charger finale and the recent draw down had left the fishing tough. As the day one weigh-in concluded, the team of Larry Wood and Robert Brooks sat atop the leader board with a weight of 14.60. Pate and Morrison were in second with 13.13 followed closely by Daniel and Harrison with 12.43. 28 limits were brought in and a total of 300 bass were weighed on Saturday.

With the weights tightly stacked together, Sunday’s final round was up for grabs. After another 263 fish crossed the scales, Larry Wood and Robert Brooks were crowned champions of the Charger Fisherman’s Choice, LLC Classic. The team from Ardmore walked away with the top prize of $10,000.00.

Gene Robertson and Don McFarlin added 11.45 pounds to their day one weight of 11.20 to finish in second with 22.65. The aptly named team of Lance and Ed Fisher finish third with a two day total of 22.58 earning the father/son team $1,600.00 for the weekend.

After the weigh-in concluded and the door prizes were awarded, Kevin Harrel gathered everyone around for the boat drawing. Charger Bass Boats, along with Pier One Marine out of Duncan and Thomas Marine located in Checotah helped to award the draw prize of a new Charger Pro Team 296 bass boat valued at more than $36,000.00.

With the help of a young fan, Kevin announced the winners to be Lance Priddy and Eddy Parrott. The two were the new owners of the Charger bass boat.

Final Numbers
94 teams competed, 563 fish were brought to the scales and $58,205.00 in cash and prizes was awarded by the staff at Charger Fisherman’s Choice, LLC, bringing the year end total to $113,469.00.

Top Five
1. Woods/Brooks 24.60
2. Roberston/McFarlin 22.65
3. Fisher/Fisher 22.58
4. Pate/Morrison 22.54
5. Gentry/Gentry 22.28

Wood/Brooks
Calling nearby Ardmore home, Larry Wood and Robert Brooks do not consider themselves “locals” and Lake Texoma. “It feels good to come down here and beat the local guys,” Larry said shortly after receiving the first place check. “It’s about time.”

Larry and Robert found a school of bass holding in shallow water and milked the school for both days of the tournament. “We caught a limit pretty quick on Saturday,” Larry said. “The first time we went in there on Sunday, we caught a small limit. We went back later and caught the ten pounds we needed.”

Although their second day effort of 10 pounds was significantly lower than the 14 pounds they posted on Saturday, it was enough to secure a winning margin of almost two pounds.

Robertson/Mcfarlin
The Texas/Oklahoma team of Gene Robertson and Don McFarlin brought 11.20 to the scales on day one and added 11.45 on Sunday to finish in second and earn $3,040.00. “We covered a lot of water trying to get the bites we needed,” Gene said about the pair’s efforts. “The cloud cover helped today. It seemed to move the fish up.”

The team sponsored by Ranger Boats and Jimmy Houston Marine ran from the dam to the river and caught 15 keeper bass of the course of the tournament. “The water was falling and that made the bite tough. We just kept after it and fortunately got enough bites to finish where we did,” Gene said about the outcome.

Fisher/Fisher
Ed and Lance Fisher sat in fifth place after Saturday’s round. On Sunday the father/son team moved up to third with the help of their final limit of 10.69. The pair focused on buck brush in the back of a creek.

Sticking with that one small area, Lance and Ed caught several limits of fish and their best ten earned them $1,600.00. “The areas we found in practice were out of the water,” Lance said. “I think the dropping water moved the better fish out.”

The 2007season is now over for the Charger Fisherman’s Choice, LLC tournament trail, but the Kevin, Bob and the entire staff are already working on the’08 schedule. As they iron out the details, several things are certain; they will host a great circuit, they will enlist the help of quality sponsors who genuinely care about the anglers and they will offer one of the best fishing opportunities for anglers across the state.
