BLACKSTONE & MEYERS WIN CHARGER TEAM EVENT AT EUFAULA
  14.48 Gets the Win

Eufaula, OK – The Charger Fisherman’s Choice, LLC held the final regular season event July, 29th at Lake Eufaula. 87 teams braved the heat, the rain and the falling water for a chance at the guaranteed first place money of $3,000.00.

Also at stake was the Angler of the Year Title. Several teams made a run at the title, but in the end it was one team’s trophy to lose. Although an official announcement has not been made, the team of Tim Harp and Tim Kline appeared to have strengthened their lead with a 12.52 limit on Sunday.

The recent rains that have plagued Oklahoma gave way to drier conditions leading up to the tournament. The US Corps of Engineers worked steadily to lower the water and make access to the lake easier. The water level continued to fall at a rate of six inches a day in spite of the heavy down pour that occurred Sunday.

As the clouds parted, the anglers made their way to the stage with 70 of the teams bringing in at least one fish. The team of Keith Blackstone and Mike Meyers top all the other competitors with a five fish limit totaling 16.46. The duo earned $3,131.00 for their efforts on Lake Eufaula.

In second was Elite Series angler Bradley Hallman and his partner, Larry Rea. Hallman and Rea brought a mixed bag of largemouths and smallies to the scales that weighed 14.95. Their limit paid them $2,112.00 or just over $140.00 a pound.

Just a few ounces back and in third was the Triton team of Harold Waller and Duncan McDonald. They brought in a limit of bass that totaled 14.14 and netted the Duncan duo a total of $1,252.00

Duane Hanshew and his partner, Harold Roberts claimed big bass honors with a bass that pushed the scales down to 5.33 pounds earning them a bonus of $870.00.

Top Five
1. Meyers/Blackstone 16.46
2. Hallman/Rea 14.95
3. Waller/McDonald 14.14
4. Priddy/Parrott 13.44
5. Niblett/McCann 13.31

Blackstone and Meyers Strike Early
On their way to Gaines Creek, Keith and Mike stop at a spot in the famous Eufaula triangle and quickly boated a limit. “We had five fish by 7 o’clock,” Keith said. “We probably caught 15 keepers today.”

The team located some clearer water down south in Gaines Creek and used it their advantage. “We fished rock piles and other structure,” Keith, the former BASS ZONE writer revealed. “In fact, all but one of our final fish came off a single rock pile.”

Flipping a black/blue tube for the majority of the day, the team sponsored by Gene Larew, Meyers Body Works and the Oklahoma Bass Federation Nation caught fish all day. Their five best weighed 16.46 pounds and gave them a hard earned victory.

Bite Tough for Bass Pro
Bradley Hallman is making a mark on the BASS Elite Series, but that doesn’t keep him from joining the fun of a local derby, when time allows. He and his partner, local big-stick, Larry Rea combined forces to finish second at the Charger Event. “We were catching some quality smallmouth bass on Saturday,” said the BASS ZONE pro. “The bite got tougher today and we couldn’t find those quality fish.”

In fact, their biggest fish of the day was a 5.13 black narrowly missing big bass honors. The team fished the “chute”- a narrow area of Lake Eufaula leading from the western part of the lake to the dam area—and caught several fish. “During the summer, current can be real important,” Hallman said. “With the amount of water they a pulling and the narrow part of the lake, there was a ton of current.” Hallman and Rea used Eakins jigs exclusively to bag their limit, but not without cost. “We probably lost a hundred jigs today. I told Larry we had to finish high just to offset the cost.” Both Bradley and Larry revealed their biggest sponsors are their wives.

Waller and McDonald Leap into Third
Proving that there are often times, not one, not two, but at least three separate patterns working on any body of water, Harold Waller and Duncan McDonald threw a frog for their third place weight of 14.14. “We looked for areas that had heavy pollen concentrations on the water,” Harold shared. “The bass seemed to be using the pollen for shade.”

They also caught several keepers throughout the day with their biggest coming with just ten minutes left in the day. “We actually caught bigger fish in practice,” said the team sponsored by G-Loomis. “Today, they seemed to have moved out on us, but we were able to catch fish all day long.”

This was the last regular season tournament for the Charger Fisherman’s Choice, LLC. The championship will be held on Lake Texoma during the weekend of September 8th and 9th. Once again, it can not be stressed enough how well run this tournament circuit is. Bob and Kevin Harrell do an outstanding job. They have surrounded themselves with an outstanding staff and a great set of sponsors.
