DAY TWO.....QUOTES FROM THE CLASSIC FIELD

Story by Brent Conway and  Dru Smith

Kelly Jordon 44th Place 16-5

“I had 7 bites; missed one, lost three and landed three. They were all largemouths. We don’t have a lot of lakes in Texas where the bite man-activated. The fish bite here when the current is flowing and that happens when they decide to run the turbines. It all comes down to the generation schedule. I had an incredible practice and a so-so Classic. It is time to start thinking about Amistad.”

Jeff Reynolds 27th Place 22-1

“I caught a limit in about 30 minutes. I started looking for largemouths and couldn’t find them. I basically did the same things as yesterday, but I could get the quality fish to fire off.”

Gary Klein 6th Place 28-11

“I’m throwing a jig and fishing both deep and shallow. I caught a limit away from the bank and then went flipping the grass. I probably caught 20 keepers today. The key for me was a couple of big bites. I’m in a good position for the last day, but these guys are good. It will take about 20 pounds for me to win it tomorrow.”

Mike Iaconelli 15th Place 24-15

“I had another good day out there. I tried to mix it up and catch some bigger fish and it just didn’t work out. I caught probably 25 to 30 keepers, I just never got the big bite.”

Steve Kennedy 7th Place 28-9

“It was a fun day, I don’t know if it was the weather or if my timing was just better. I caught 15 spotted bass from one spot where I didn’t catch a single fish yesterday. I went largemouth fishing after I got my limit, and it took two hours to cull all but one of the bigger spotted bass.”

Timmy Horton 5th Place 29-11

“My day started off good – I caught two fish on my very first cast! It got really slow after that though. I went the next six hours without a bite. I was finally able to fill out my limit, but that was about it.”

Royce Dennington 23rd Place 23-12

“I went to the back of a creek and caught a largemouth early. After that, I just started flying around throwing a jig and catching fish. I really had a lot of fun today, and I’m tickled to death that I’ve made the cut and can have another day on the water.”

James Niggemeyer 21st Place 23-15

“I’m basically running two different patterns. I’m running any early-morning shallow pattern, and I was able to get a few fishing doing that. The other one is a deeper pattern that I go to in the afternoon. I culled about three times today doing the deep-water deal. I had a lot of fun!”

Zell Rowland 42nd Place 17-4

“I just couldn’t get the bites I needed. I caught three and missed three – I don’t know exactly what the deal was. I can’t pinpoint as to whether or not it was the boat traffic, or the weather, but whatever it was they just bit funny and gave me fits.”

Terry Scroggins 3rd Place 30-15

“I didn’t catch any spotted bass today. I relied on a flipping technique to catch the majority of my fish. The difference in my limit today versus yesterday – I had two big spotted bass whereas today it was just all keeper largemouths. I’m going to change my area, but not what I’m doing.”

Russ Lane 25th Place 22-7

“It was just another tough day out there. I went out knowing that I had to make up some ground, and I just wasn’t able to do it. (Regarding the hometown jinx) It wasn’t the pressure, it wasn’t all of the media hype, it just boils down to all of the history I have on this lake and I relied on it too much. I wasn’t able to get all those spots where big fish had came from in the past out of my mind and went to them trying to make something happen.”

Jared Lintner 19th Place 24-6

“All I’ve been doing is throwing jigs. Today the bite was just funny – they bit my trailer off, they bit my skirt off, but I was having a hard time getting a hook in them. It was like they were just mashing it down in their mouths or something. I’m going to try flipping some soft plastics tomorrow to see if they will eat it a little bit better.”

Tommy Biffle 8th Place 28-6

“It looks like I’m going to need a bigger bag tomorrow, doesn’t it? I don’t know what happened, but the bite changed a lot from one day to the next. I missed a few fish that might have helped me, and I know that all of the traffic surely didn’t help either. I’ve got a little deal that I’m going to gamble on tomorrow because I surely can’t rely on another 12-pound bag to make any difference for me.”
