Day two at the 2007 Bassmaster Classic was not without excitement. Kevin VanDam made another patented surge to the top of the leader board and as with the Classic on Lake Wiley, there was controversy on the second day. It was not a question of if, but when would Ike make a “statement.” The moment came on stage during Saturday’s weigh-in.
However, by far the most talked about controversial event was Gerald Swindle’s disqualification. Shortly after Saturday’s take-out, Trip Weldon informed Swindle that he would be disqualified from the second day’s competition. |

Apparently, an on water incident occurred during the competition involving Gerald, Randy Howell and several non-tournament boats. Gerald motored through an area that contained several boats and his actions were later deemed unsafe by Tournament Director, Trip Weldon.
While the complete details have not been released, Gerald did hold a brief press conference detailing much of what happened.
Gerald went on to disclose his version of the story and gave a detailed explanation of the event. “I made a poor decision,” Swindle said. “I had a split second to make a choice, and I take full responsibility for that decision. At no time did I feel like I put myself or anyone else in danger.”
Further comments from Gerald will be available on The BASS ZONE following the conclusion of the Classic.
